Over the last 2 years the AEESP Board of Directors (BOD) has set out to look at the future of our organization that we all enjoy. We certainly look to continue and build on the AEESP tradition of collegiality and assisting our members in facing challenges in environmental engineering and science research and education. The AEESP strategic plans have been recently articulated to include these main themes:
We hope to continue making progress on all these topics and continually improving our organization. As so many topics in environmental enginee
ring and science are faced globally, we identified the need to disseminate resources widely, which will concurrently hit items 1 and 4 above. A leading action item identified by the AEESP BOD along these lines was a potential affiliation with an international journal. During strategic planning discussions at the 2011 AEESP Education and Research Conference in Tampa, the journal affiliation was the most often noted topic for future needs and efforts of AEESP. In surveying the potential journal affiliations, Environmental Engineering and Science (EES) was identified as a journal without a current affiliation and with a broad scope that best fits the breadth of interests represented by AEESP membership. We have discussed the potential affiliation with EES Editor in Chief Domineco Grasso and with the editorial staff at Mary Ann Liebert. As a result we have developed a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) official journal of AEESP; this affiliation will be up for a bylaws vote by the membership in the fall. The MOU is presented here for the membership as we consider a membership-wide vote on this important topic. The MOU would serve as the starting point if we chose to move forward with the AEESP-EES affiliation. To better inform the membership of EES and representative content, two recent issues were made available to all for viewing. Please consider this important topic and share your opinions… and Vote!
