PhD position in Environmental Sustainability, State University of New York at Albany

Title:  Graduate Research Assistant

Institution:   State University of New York (SUNY) at Albany

Location:  Albany, New York, USA

Dr. Xiaobo Xue invites applications for a graduate research assistant position at the PhD level in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences at SUNY, Albany. Dr. Xue’s research focuses on developing life cycle and risk assessment approaches to investigate the environmental sustainability of water and energy systems.

Sorption of Ionogenic Organic Compounds

Applications are being accepted for one PhD student to conduct research on the influence of organic compound structure on the sorption of ionogenic organic compounds to pure phase minerals and well-characterized soils.  Example compounds of interest include pharmaceuticals, surfactants and pesticides.  The candidate will undertake research tasks as part of an interdisciplinary, multi-institution team using experimental observations and computational tools to probe sorption interactions.  Primary research tasks will consist of laboratory studies using HPLC, UV-Vis spectroscopy and other comm

GAANN: Environmental engineering and Water Resources

The Environmental Engineering Program at the University of Connecticut invites PhD applicants to apply for a GAANN (Graduate Assistantships in Areas of National Need) Fellowship supported by the US Department of Education in the area of water science, policy and education.  GAANN fellows will be engaged in cutting edge research in the areas of hydrometeorological prediction, water resources modeling and planning, water quality and public health.  Fellows will develop research through collaborations with environmental engineering as well as social scientist faculty.  An internship opportunit

Membrane Water Reuse

Dr. Daisuke Minakata in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Michigan Technological University is seeking a highly motivated graduate student (MS/PhD) interested in performing membrane research in the area of water reuse.  Research assistantship will be available from the externally funded resource.  The ideal candidate would have knowledge and/or experience in computational chemistry, molecular modeling, and/or membrane research.  The position will be available from summer/fall 2016.

Biological Wastewater Treatment

Dr. Zhiwu (Drew) Wang invites applications for a graduate research assistantship at PhD level in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Virginia Tech (The Environmental Engineering graduate program at the Virginia Tech ranks 10th among the nation’s best engineering school according to U.S. News and World Report’s America’s Best Graduate Schools 2016 survey). Successful candidates will receive instruction and perform this research at the Occoquan Laboratory in Manassas, VA, just an hour’s drive from Washington DC. Dr.

Ph.D. Assistantship in Environmental Engineering

A PhD research assistant position is available in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH: http://www.uah.edu/)starting January, 2016.  The successful applicant is expected to conduct research in the area of sustainable water and wastewater treatment and/or non-point source pollution control. A BS in environmental engineering or a related field is required and applicants with a MS degree in pertinent fields and/or experience with GIS are preferred.

Estuary Water Quality Modeling

A graduate-student research assistant position is currently available in Dr. Dan Obenour’s Environmental Modeling and Forecasting lab group at NC State University in Raleigh.  This position will most likely focus on eutrophication modeling for the Neuse River estuary, through other opportunities may also be available.  Primary responsibilities will include model development and manuscript preparation within the context of a (preferably) Ph.D.

Environmental Engineering

The Environmental Engineering Program at Auburn University is looking for highly motivated Ph.D. students and research scholars to carry out research projects in the following areas:

1)      Nanomaterials and nanotechnologies for environmental cleanup uses, and

2)      Physical chemical processes related to oil/PAHs weathering and photochemical degradation, and interactions between oil-dispersants and sediments

Environmental Processes/Environmental Engineering

The Environmental Processes (EP) research focus area of the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Cornell University (http://www.cee.cornell.edu/) invites applications for research-based M.S./Ph.D. and Ph.D. studies beginning in the 2016/2017 academic year. Cornell offers graduate students the opportunity to individualize their course of study with a committee of faculty members to select the most important courses to complement their research.
