Dr. Zhiwu (Drew) Wang invites applications for a graduate research assistantship at PhD level in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Virginia Tech (The Environmental Engineering graduate program at the Virginia Tech ranks 10th among the nation’s best engineering school according to U.S. News and World Report’s America’s Best Graduate Schools 2016 survey). Successful candidates will receive instruction and perform this research at the Occoquan Laboratory in Manassas, VA, just an hour’s drive from Washington DC. Dr.
The Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering at the University of Alabama has an opening for a Ph.D. student to work under the guidance of Dr. Mark Elliott on the contribution of on-site wastewater (e.g., septic systems) to contamination of surface water and groundwater in a local watershed.
The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) has an opening of a research assistant position in the area of Water Resources and Environmental Engineering. Potential research topics include investigating the fate and transport of contaminants in porous media, groundwater remediation, and water quality control in storm water management. The research will couple experimental and modeling investigations from pore scale to continuum scale.
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Construction at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is seeking a Ph.D. student to work under the guidance of Dr. Daniel Gerrity on projects related to microbial source tracking, antibiotic resistance, and biofiltration. The work will incorporate elements of environmental microbiology and advanced treatment in the context of water reuse.
PhD STUDENT POSITION IN CIVIL ENGINEERING (ENVIRONMENTAL).
UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII AT MANOA.
Dr. Wenqing Xu invites applications for a graduate research assistantship at master/PhD level in the department of civil and environmental engineering at Villanova University. Dr. Xu’s research interest builds upon the fundamental understanding of environmental interfacial chemistry, with the goal of applying them to both natural and engineered systems to address today’s environmental challenges. This specific project will focus on material synthesis and their application in contaminants transformation.
Multiple Environmental Engineering Graduate Research Assistantships
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at University of Nevada (Reno) is seeking multiple full-time graduate students to work with Dr. Yu Yang on his USDA/DOE-supported projects starting in January 2016. For the USDA project, we target to analyze the potential microbial-mediated reactions/transformation and consequent plant uptake of carbon nanotube, using C13- or C14-labeled carbon nanotube and multiple characterizations. Experience of working with nanomaterials and plant (tomato) culture is preferred.
Dr. Belinda Sturm’s Environmental Microbiology & Water Sustainability Lab at the University of Kansas (KU), Lawrence, is searching for a PhD student to participate in an NSF-funded, and industry collaborative project, regarding the aerobic granular sludge process. The successful candidate will have opportunities to engage with a large team of consulting engineers, microbial ecologists and wastewater engineers.
Multiple PhD research assistant positions are available in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Iowa starting in January 2016. Research topics are diverse and include environmental microbiology, environmental biotechnology, environmental chemistry and environmental nanotechnology. A BS in environmental engineering, chemical engineering or a related field is required and applicants with a MS degree in pertinent fields are preferred.
