Description:  Assistantships to Study the Nexus between Solar Energy-Water- and the Environment.

Graduate Assistantship in water quality monitoring and modeling

The Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is seeking two graduate students (1 at MS and 1 at PhD level) in Soil and Water Resources Engineering area. The graduate research will focus in water quality monitoring and modeling. The candidate(s) should have degree/s in agricultural and biological engineering, civil engineering or related engineering discipline with strong background in hydrology, water quality, geo-informatics, water resource management, or related disciplines.

Biomass Conversion for BioEnergy or Composites

The Green Energy Research Group of Dr. Ben S.-Y. Leu in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HK PolyU) is looking for Ph.D. and Research Assistants (R.A.) applicants to study on Biomass Science. The main research topics will be on using biomass (i.e. derived from forest residues or urban wastes) into biofuels, composites, and/or other value-added products.

Environmental Engineering: Nanotechnology

Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering at the University of Miami is seeking a highly motivated Ph.D. student to work under the guidance of Dr. Sung Hee Joo as soon as possible (Local candidates preferred). The PhD student is expected to perform research in the area of fate, transport & risk assessment of nanomaterials. Interested, dedicated, and qualified candidates are encouraged to send a letter describing their previous research experiences, resume, and the contact information of two references, as a single pdf file, to Dr.

Novel Membrane Materials & Systems for Micropollutant Removal

KIT is one of the biggest research institutions worldwide and has access to state-of-the art research facilities within the National Research Centre of the Helmholtz Association and the former Technical University. The IFG-Membrane Technology Department was established in March 2014. As a PhD Candidate you will be responsible to work on a research project within one of the three main interest areas of the department (i) new membrane materials, (ii) membrane retention and fouling mechanisms, and (iii) membrane systems development – applied to water treatment.

Fate and transport of emerging organic contaminants

I am looking for a highly motivated student who is interested in pursuing a master degree in Water Resources and Environmental Engineering at Villanova University. Student is expected to start in fall 2014 under the guidance of Dr. Wenqing Xu. Full financial support (stipend and tuition credits) will be provided through a graduate assistantship. Candidates must have a BS in relevant engineering fields with excellent communication/writing skills and a strong interest in environmental chemistry. Previous training in laboratories is a plus.

Environmental Engineering

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at South Dakota School of Mines & Technology (SDSM&T) seeks a highly motivated student to join as a PhD graduate research assistant for our new doctoral program proposed to start in Fall 2014. The candidate will have an opportunity to work on some of the following research projects:

Natural Gas for Transportation from Oil Sands Bitumen

A Master of Applied Science (MASc) student is being sought for the winter 2015 semester at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology.  The student will work on the project, Natural Gas for Transportation from Oil Sands Bitumen:  Life Cycle GHG and Financial Implications.  The successful applicant will hold a bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.  Familiarity with natural gas, the oil sands, real options analysis and/or life cycle assessment would be an asset.  Interested candidates must apply to the MASc program in Mechanica

Experimental Fluid Mechanics

The PhD project “Hydraulic resistance in free-surface flows: an experimental study” will focus on developing, through high-resolution laboratory experiments, new physical insights into key friction mechanisms due to viscous stress, turbulent stress, form-induced stress, secondary currents, non-uniformity, and unsteadiness. The experiments will cover appropriate ranges of roughness shapes and densities, flow and roughness Reynolds numbers, aspect ratio, and relative submergence.
