Environmental Engineering

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) is seeking a Ph.D. student to work under the guidance of Dr. Wen Zhang on the environmental application of nanotechnology. Specifically, the project will focus on developing a novel photocatalytic reactor for simultaneous wastewater treatment and hydrogen production. The ideal candidate will possess a M.S. in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related fields, though exceptional B.S.-level candidates may also be considered.

Ph.D./R.A. for Green Energy Research (Starting 2013 Winter)

The new Green Energy Research Group of Dr. Shao-Yuan (Ben) Leu in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) is looking for applicants of 1 Ph.D. and 1~2 Research Assistants (R.A.) to study Wastes-to-Energy alternative in Hong Kong. The expacted research works will be on developing innovative techniques to convert municipal solid wastes and biomass into high value biofuels and other useful products. Environmental Engineering/Microbiology/Wastewater Treatment/Antibiotic Resistance

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Construction at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is seeking a Ph.D. student to work under the guidance of Dr. Daniel Gerrity on a funded project evaluating the effects of wastewater treatment processes on the proliferation/mitigation of antibiotic resistant bacteria and antibiotic resistance genes. This project incorporates elements of environmental engineering and microbiology.

Environmental and Infrastructure Engineering

The Whelton Group at the University of South Alabama seeks candidates for a M.S. Civil Engineering (Environmental Focus) Graduate Research Assistantship for Fall 2013. The student would complete environmental engineering coursework in addition to a thesis research project pertaining to degradation of polymer materials in fossil and nuclear power facilities. All work would be completed at South Alabama and would include water and material characterization.

Electrochemistry/Membranes

The Chemical Engineering Department at the University of Illinois at Chicago seeks candidates for a PhD Research Assistantship for a project focused on the development of reactive electrochemical membranes for water purification. The ideal candidate will possess a M.S. in Chemical or Environmental Engineering, and prior experience in electrochemistry, membrane processes, and surface characterization.
