Bioremediation and Geoenvironmental Engineering

Dr. Wonjae Chang's Lab at the University of Saskatchewan is currently looking for two master students who want to participate in cutting-edge geoenvironmental engineering and bioremediation research. The research will focus on developing remediation technologies for engineered and natural environmental systems impacted by the extractions of natural resources in northern Canada. The selected applicants’ thesis research will be related to the development of self-sustaining, extended bioremediation systems for hydrocarbon-contaminated sites in cold climates.

Groundwater hydrology

The RESTORE Research Group at Western University is seeking PhD and Masters students to work on an integrated project that will assess the contribution of groundwater to nutrient and pathogen pollution along beaches of the Great Lakes. This collaborative research project involves a multi-disciplinary team of researchers from RESTORE, Environment Canada’s National Water Research Institute and the Ecohydrology Research Group (University of Waterloo).

Disinfection, Water Quality Engineering, Microbiology, and Public Health

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Washington is seeking a PhD student to work under the guidance of Dr. Michael Dodd on a National Science Foundation funded project addressing the fate of bacterial antibiotic resistance genes during disinfection and antisepsis processes applied in water treatment and health care.

Environmental Engineering

The Division of Environmental Engineering at the Department of Civil Engineering at Kyung Hee University in Korea seeks applicants for PhD students focusing on the membrane fouling for water treatment, novel application of nanomaterials for water purification, and removal of heavy metals from ground water.  The candidate should have a M.S. (or B.S. for MS-PhD program) in Civil,  Environmental, or Chemical Engineering, and prior research experience in water treatment such as membrane processes, adsorption processes, and the water quality measurement.

Water Treatment

The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Arkansas seeks applicants for a PhD Research Assistantship for an NSF CAREER funded project focusing on optimizing surface chemistry of carbon nanotubes for adsorption of disinfection byproduct precursors. The ideal candidate will have a M.S. in Civil, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering, and prior research experience in drinking water treatment, disinfection byproduct analyses, adsorption processes, and surface characterizations. The selected applicant will receive full tuition, competitive stipend, and health benefits.
