Biofilm Research

Job description: Our research focuses on water quality and advanced process technologies for water and wastewater treatment. The relevance of biofilms for water quality in natural and technical systems is one of the main areas of interest. Ph.D.

Environmental Engineering and Marine Science

The Whelton and Powers Groups at the University of South Alabama are collectively seeking a candidate for a graduate research assistantship (GRA) in either Civil Engineering or Marine Sciences that begins Fall 2012. The selected individual will conduct thesis work in pursuit of a Ph.D., Sc.D., or M.S. degree on a US EPA STAR project entitled “Dendritic Polymers as Biocompatible Dispersants.” This project was awarded to PI Drs. David Ladner (Clemson Univ.) and coPIs Pu-Chun Ke (Clemson Univ.), Andrew Whelton (South Alabama), and Sean Powers (South Alabama) and began Summer 2012.

Environmental Engineering

The Environmental Engineering Program at Auburn University is looking for qualified Ph.D. students and research scholars to carry out research projects in the following areas: 1) Physical chemical processes related to oil/PAHs weathering 2) Interactions between oil-dispersants and sediments 3) Nanomaterials and nanotechnologies for environmental cleanup uses, and 4) Biological process and biotechnology in environmental engineering Our interdisciplinary environmental engineering team currently consists of six active faculty members.

Biological Processes Research Activities at NEWRI's Advanced Environmental Biotechnology Centre (AEBC)

PhD Students (B): For Biological Processes Research Activities at AEBC The applicants will have a good basic degree in Environmental/Biochemical Engineering, or Environmental Microbiology/Biotechnology, or possibly Analytical Chemistry, and will integrate into AEBC’s R&D thrusts on biological processes.

Life Cycle Engineering

Sustainability Engineering Lab has an opening for a 4 year Sustainable Energy Pathway (SEP) PhD fellow to work on a National Science Foundation funded multidisciplinary project on development, sustainability analysis, and outreach of earth-abundant thin-film solar cells. The PhD fellow will be housed in the department of civil engineering but will be part of a larger team effort involving the disciplines of engineering, physics, materials science, chemistry, economics, environmental sciences, social science, and education.

Green Building Environmental Engineering and Chemistry

The Whelton and Stenson Groups at the University of South Alabama are collectively seeking a candidate for a graduate research assistantship (GRA) in Civil Engineering that begins in Summer 2013. The selected individual will conduct thesis work in pursuit of a M.S. Civil Engineering, M.S. Environmental Toxicology, or Sc.D. Systems Engineering degree on a National Science Foundation (NSF) project entitled “Towards a Safer and Greener Indoor Environment: Chemical Liberation from Polyethylene Plumbing Pipes.” This project was awarded to Drs.

Human Health Risk Analysis

The Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering Program at Michigan State University is looking for qualified Ph.D. students to carry out research projects in the following areas: 1) Quantitative Microbial Risk Assessment (QMRA) and risk management; and 2) Systems biology and dose-response modeling. We are a multidisciplinary group that includes chemical exposure modeling and biophysical processes and ecological modeling of chemicals and microbes in the environment.

Lead Corrosion and Water Quality Modeling

The RESTORE Research Group at Western University is seeking PhD students to work on a Canadian Water Network project that will model and explore lead in water distribution systems. The project will combine laboratory investigations, pipe loop studies and field data with the development of an advanced water quality computer model. The computer model will be designed as decision support tool to enable municipalities to investigate causes of existing elevated lead levels and to design modifications at the water treatment plant that will reduce lead levels at the tap.

Environmental Engineering

2013 Environmental Engineering Graduate Internships, Fellowships and Assistantships Manhattan College is pleased to announce multiple funding opportunities for students pursuing a Masters Degrees in Environmental Engineering. Manhattan College has one of the oldest and most renowned Environmental Engineering Master’s Degree Programs in the country. The program has a long history supporting graduate students through a variety of scholarship and research assistantship programs.

Groundwater Hydrology, Biogeochemistry and Microbiology

The RESTORE Research Group at Western University and the Ecohydrology Research Group at University of Waterloo are seeking PhD students to work on an integrated project that will assess the impacts of groundwater-surface water interactions on nutrient and pathogen dynamics along beaches of the Great Lakes. This collaborative research project involves a multi-disciplinary team of researchers from RESTORE, the Ecohydrology Research Group and Environment Canada’s National Water Research Institute.
