There are multiple projects for post-doctoral funding in the EWRE program in the environmental biotechnology and chemistry labs of Drs. Nancy Love, Terri Olson, Lutgarde Raskin and Krista Wigginton (joining our faculty in January 2013). Project topics include activities in the list below. Applications should submit a single pdf file that includes a cover letter that outlines the applicant's research goals, CV, a list of at least three references, and copies of recent papers. Topics of interest include: - microbial ecology of drinking water and wastewater systems - metabolic fate of trace organic chemicals undergoing biotransformation in aerobic, microaerobic and anaerobic environments - development of antibiotic resistance in microorganisms on disinfected surfaces or that colonize point-of-use activated carbon filters - virus inactivation during physical/chemical processing and land application of source-separated urine - role of bacteriophages in environmental engineering systems Funding for these positions is available through existing NSF grants, discretionary and start-up funds, anticipated grant funding, and UM’s M-cubed program.
