Job Description:

Position Summary:

Serves as a technical resource for the Operations Department to ensure that HRSD treatment plants are operated to meet all permit requirements within an appropriate risk management framework

Participates in strategic planning efforts associated with meeting new regulatory requirements

Manages HRSD water technology innovation efforts, including but not limited to nutrient removal and recovery, water reuse, solids handling processes, resource recovery, advanced treatment processes, process control and automation, process modeling, and collection and conveyance systems           

HRSD is a 24/7/365 operation and a traditional work schedule will not always be possible to maintain in this position.  Travel to remote work centers within the HRSD service area is required

Required Qualififcations, Experience and Licenses:

Doctorate in Engineering (Environmental, Chemical or Civil Engineering preferred)

Technical expertise in wastewater process technology

Minimum of 5 years experience in wastewater treatment process design, modeling, operations, and research

Minimum of 5 years project management experience

Wastewater process modeling expertise and practical experience

Experience with technical training and presentations

Licensed Professional Engineer in Virginia (or ability to obtain within 2 years of employment)

Virginia Class I Wastewater Operators License (to be obtained within 2 years of employment)

Valid driver’s license from state of residence

Desired Qualifications, Experience and Licenses:

Detailed technical expertise in solids handling processes including thickening, digestion, dewatering, and incineration

University teaching experience and experience guiding and advising graduate students

Experience dealing with regulatory agencies and requirements

Global understanding of wastewater treatment technology and practice

Board Certified Environmental Engineer

Ability to obtain appointment(s) as a university adjunct professor in the area of Environmental Engineering

Salary dependent upon qualifications
