EMPOWER—Education Model Program on Water-Energy Research—is a new National Science Foundation Research Traineeship (NRT) interdisciplinary graduate training program at Syracuse University. Graduate students in this program conduct research at the “water-energy nexus,” which is a priority research area nationally. Through an individualized professional development program, a career pathways experience, summer field experiences, and an interdisciplinary seminar, participants gain the technical knowledge and professional skills needed to address the contemporary challenges of increased demands on water and energy resources. Students will be prepared for careers in energy, environmental consulting, government, nonprofits, academic, and beyond.
We are seeking applications from individuals interested in pursuing either Master’s or Doctoral study within the “water-energy nexus.” EMPOWER participants will be considered for an NRT-stipend package to be awarded for one year during the course of their graduate program. Remaining years of their graduate study may be funded through graduate fellowships, teaching assistantships, or research assistantships.
