Postdoctoral Researcher in Wastewater Disinfection, Focussing on PAA and UV
The Department of Civil Engineering at McGill University (Montreal, Quebec), in collaboration with Trojan Technologies (London, Ontario) is seeking a full-time postdoctoral researcher in the area of wastewater disinfection, focussing on peracetic acid (PAA) and UV. The position will be for up to 2 years, starting no later than June 1, 2016. The postdoctoral researcher will be mentored by Professor Ronald Gehr (McGill) and Dr Siva Sarathy (Trojan), and will participate in research on PAA and PAA/UV combinations for treating wastewaters. The project will involve preparing an extensive literature review, a meta-data analysis of historical data from published as well as grey literature, and experiments at the batch/laboratory and pilot scales. The work will be conducted at McGill as well as on-site at Trojan and municipal wastewater treatment plants. Limited teaching opportunities at McGill may also be available.
Excellence in English writing is a prerequisite. Previous experience with one or more of the following is also required: disinfection studies in the municipal environment using PAA, UV and/or other method, laboratory experience with basic water quality tests and microbiology, computational fluid dynamics analysis of disinfection reactors, ability to handle large data sets and draw statistical inferences. The candidate should have a Ph.D. in environmental engineering, or a related field. The position is funded through Mitacs Accelerate. Salary will be Can$45k/annum.
