A postdoctoral research fellow position in environmental microbiology and biotechnology
A postdoctoral research fellow position in the areas of environmental microbiology and biotechnology is available in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Nanyang Technological University (www.ntu.edu.sg). We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher who holds a PhD in microbiology, environmental engineering, biological engineering, or related fields. The successful candidate must possess excellent communication (written and spoken English) skills and be highly motivated, independent, and self-directed.
The postdoctoral researcher will conduct research on fate (e.g., microbial degradation) and effects (e.g., microbial response, resistance, adaptation, and evolution) of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) in natural and engineered biological systems. Ideal candidates should have a strong background in laboratory experiments with pure and mixed cultures, molecular microbiological techniques (e.g., PCR, DNA/cDNA preparation for next generation sequencing), analytical methods (e.g., LC-MS), and bioreactor design and operation. Bioinformatics experience in analyzing high throughput sequence data (e.g., metagenomic and 16S rRNA gene sequence data) will be preferred but not essential.
The appointment will be offered for one year and will be extended for up to 3 years based upon satisfactory performance.
