A postdoctoral research fellow position in environmental microbiology and biotechnology

A postdoctoral research fellow position in the areas of environmental microbiology and biotechnology is available in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Nanyang Technological University. We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher who holds a PhD in microbiology, environmental engineering, biological engineering, or related fields. The successful candidate must possess excellent communication (written and spoken English) skills and be highly motivated, independent, and self-directed.


The postdoctoral researcher will conduct research on antibacterial effect of TiO2 based cement and interaction between bacteria and advanced construction materials, via e.g. precipitation of calcium carbonate by bacteria in the damaged concrete to promote self-healing of concrete. Ideal candidates should have a strong background in laboratory experiments with pure cultures, bacteria isolation, identification and cultivation. Experience with interaction of bacteria and cementitious materials are preferred, but not essential.


The appointment will be offered for one year and will be extended for up to 2 years based upon performance and funding availability. We will provide competitive salary/benefits depending on the candidate's qualification under the guideline of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Nanyang Technological University.
