The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of Waterloo is seeking a PhD student in resource recovery wastewater treatment, focusing on extracellular electron transfer (EET). A selected student will be offered a research assistantship covering stipend and tuition.
The student will primarily work on EET in pure- and mixed-culture biofilm anodes with advanced tools and techniques (e.g., biofilm conductivity, biofilm thickness, modeling, and metagenomics (or metatranscriptomics)). The candidate(s) should have degree in chemical or environmental engineering, while other background related to the proposed work is considered. Previous research experience in EET, biofilm modeling, or molecular biology is preferred.
