Applications are invited for a Research Associate position in the group of Professor Saifur Rahaman at the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science of Concordia University to carry out fundamental research in the field of municipal solid waste management/treatment.

Main responsibilities

The successful candidate will involve in the development of research work for new applications of dry-wet psychrophilic anaerobic digestion-reverse osmosis process for the valorization of organic municipal solid waste into green energy, fertilizer and reusable water.


Qualifications and working conditions

University - graduate (Doctoral level) in Environmental Science or Engineering.

2-3 years of relevant experience


Job Requirements:

Applicants must have a PhD in Environmental Sciences/Engineering or a related field. The candidate with at least one post-doctoral research experience is preferred; a minimum of two year`s research experience in renewable or clean energy production, particularly in the design and the development of (i) high rate anaerobic digesters and (ii) wet/dry psychrophilic anaerobic digestion biotechnology are strongly preferred. Additional work experience related to mesophilic/thermophilic bioprocesses and reverse osmosis process techniques would be valuable. The ideal candidate will have direct experience with low-temperature waste-to-energy concept and specifically conversion of organic materials via various types of anaerobic digestion and utilization of biogas to generate heat, power, and/or fuel. The successful candidate will also engage in writing research articles for publications and presentations. Good communication skills are essential as the post holder will need to work in a team and collaborate with Industrial partners. Candidates should also demonstrate a history of science communication (e.g. presentation, outreach activities, teaching) and have a proven track record of scientific publication.

Formal screening will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. The period of employment is 6 months (with 30 working hours per week), contingent on successful performance and financial approval, with a possibility of 6 months extension. A monthly remuneration of $ 3600 will be provided.
