PhD Studentship on Biorefinery Research – Converting Lignocellulosic Biomass into Biofuels and/or Value-Added Products
The Green Energy Research Group in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HK PolyU) is seeking for new research fellow and post-graduate students to study on new generation Biorefinery Technology to convert biomass into value-added products. The related research topics include “decoding” lignocellulosic structure for more efficient pretreatment; studying enzymatic or catalytic hydrolysis of cellulose/hemicelluloses; designing biological processes and reactor for biofuels; and harvesting nano-cellulose for biocomposites.
Master or Bachelor students (to be accomplished in 2017) who major in Environmental Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or related fields are welcome to submit your application. Full scholarship will be provided to the admitted student; and the monthly stipend is approximately $1,950 USD; other research related spends include $2,600 USD personal grant per year and $1,950 USD conference travel will be also available.
TOEFL ≥ 90 or IELTS ≥ 6.5 (writing ≥ 6, if you are not a native speaker);
GPA ≥ 3.5 or ranked within 5% top in class;
