The Department of Environmental Science, Policy, and Management (http://espm.berkeley.edu), invites applications for a tenure-track (academic year) appointment at the Assistant Professor level in the area of Environmental Geochemistry, starting 1 July 2013. The department seeks candidates whose research, teaching and service position them to develop a strong disciplinary program that connects with one or more of related programs on the Berkeley campus. We are seeking a candidate with strong analytical and modeling skills who is capable of innovative field-related studies of soil-related geochemical processes. We are particularly interested in candidates capable of linking physical and biological processes at the Earth’s surface, and who may be able to capture and describe these processes via reactive transport modeling efforts. Individuals interested in chemical weathering processes, application of novel isotope tracers to soil geochemical processes, molecular scale organic-mineral interactions, and reaction/transport modeling of soil processes are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to offer an upper division undergraduate course in Environmental or Soil Geochemistry, as well as contribute to other Department teaching needs through consultation with the Chair. Graduate level teaching is encouraged, and is a part of ESPM faculty teaching expectations. Applicants must possess a Ph.D. and post doctoral experience in a chemical, geochemical, environmental, or related science. The Ph.D. or equivalent is required by the date of hire.
