Job Description:

Faculty opening in the Chemical, Biochemical and Environmental Engineering group in the School of Engineering at Brown University

Brown University announces a search for a new tenure-track or tenured faculty member in its Chemical, Biochemical, and Environmental Engineering group (CBE).  A candidate is sought with outstanding research credentials in the areas of environmental science, environmental technology, or environmental health, to affiliate with the CBE group in the School of Engineering at Brown.  The candidate would be expected to have core research strengths in the chemical sciences and to interact with Brown’s Superfund Research Program, which is a multi-disciplinary program focused on characterizing and managing the effects of environmental chemicals and emerging nanomaterials on human health. This is an open rank search, and candidates will be considered at the rank of assistant, associate and full professor, depending upon qualifications and experience. Candidates with a demonstrated track record of raising research funding in related areas are preferred.

The successful candidate will be expected to establish an innovative, extramurally funded research program within the School of Engineering. The selection will emphasize the candidate’s potential for scientific research at a high level of scholarship. Current areas of particular interest include environmental fate, transport, and detection; environmental nanotechnology; remediation technology; in vitro toxicity testing methods; and the biochemical aspects of toxicant exposure, cleanup or characterization. Teaching responsibilities will be based upon the candidate’s background, but will generally be within Brown’s integrated chemical and environmental engineering programs at the undergraduate and graduate level.

All candidates should hold a PhD, or equivalent.

Candidates for tenure-track Assistant Professor should demonstrate the potential for outstanding research and teaching and should provide three letters of reference.

Candidates for Associate Professor (tenured or untenured) should have an outstanding record of research accomplishment and scholarly achievement, with concomitant strong evidence of emerging leadership in their field, and should provide five names of references and their contact information.
