Postdoctoral Fellow in municipal wastewater nitrogen reduction
Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Alberta
A postdoctoral research position is available to develop engineered anaerobic ammonium oxidation processes for side-stream and main-stream municipal wastewater treatment. Extensive research will be carried out using molecular biology tools including PCR/cloning, pyrosequencing, FISH and quantitative-PCR.
Applicants should hold a PhD in Environmental Engineering or related area with a background in wastewater treatment, anaerobic ammonium reduction (e.g., ANAMMOX) and molecular biological methods. A strong track record of refereed journal publications, the ability to work independently, strong written and oral communication skills and knowledge of advanced statistical approaches for analyzing complex molecular datasets are highly desirable. The successful candidate will work in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering with Dr. Yang Liu. The candidate will be expected to assist in the training and mentoring of graduate students and writing research proposals. Teaching experience can be arranged if desired.
The appointment will begin in March 2017 or as soon as the position is filled, for an initial appointment of one year, but renewal for up to two additional years upon satisfactory performance.
