Applications and nominations are invited for the position of Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Responsibilities include leadership of a research-active academic department, program development with industrial partners, and stewardship of strong academic programs. Applicants should have an earned doctorate in civil and environmental engineering, or a closely related field; strong leadership ability with proven interpersonal skills; a proven research record with evidence of international recognition; and a commitment to engineering education. Applicants must be qualified for appointment as a tenured full professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. 

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering has 27 regular and a number of affiliate faculty members and 16 staff.  The research activities and educational programs include project management, environmental engineering, geotechnical and materials engineering, structural engineering, transportation engineering, remote sensing and water resources systems. With more than 432 undergraduate students, 248 graduate students and more than $26 million in research expenditures, the department is a central education and research unit at the University of Maryland.  At the undergraduate level, the department offers a degree program in Civil Engineering with specializations in six areas (Environmental, Geotechnical, Project Management, Structural, Transportation, and Water Resources).
