Faculty of Engineering Science and Technology Department of Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/PROFESSOR IN HYDRAULIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING (WATER AND WASTEWATER ENGINEERING) The Department of Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering Science and Technology, at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) announces the following vacant associate professor in Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering (Water and Wastewater Engineering). The Department has at present 8 professors, 4 associate and assistant professors, 4 adjunct professors, 3 post doctoral fellows and 22 PhD Candidates The Department has responsibility for the following disciplines: Hydraulic Engineering, Water and Wastewater Engineering, and Solid Waste Engineering and Industrial Ecology and has organized its activities in three groups accordingly. Teaching is organized as part of NTNU’s MSc-program in Civil and Environmental Engineering, where the department offers MSc-specialization in Water and Environmental Engineering. The Department is also offering a PhD-program in this area, and an international MSc-program in Hydropower Development. Finally, the Department is collaborating with other departments on an international MSc-program and a PhD-program in Industrial Ecology. The associate professorship will have specific responsibility for teaching and research in the discipline of Water and Wastewater Engineering that includes planning, design and operation of water supply and wastewater systems, stormwater- and pipe technology and management, water chemistry and environmental hygiene, drinking water treatment and wastewater treatment. Within the discipline of Water and Wastewater Engineering area there are two specialist fields; Water and Wastewater Systems (planning, design and operation of systems for conveying drinking water, wastewater and stormwater) and Water and Wastewater Treatment (planning, design and operation of plants for treatment of drinking water, wastewater and stormwater). The vacant position shall cover water chemistry and environmental hygiene, Therefore, candidates with competence and the ability to initiate, establish, and supervise research and development work in the specialist field of water chemistry and environmental hygiene within water and wastewater systems will be preferred. The successful applicant for the position must be able to document his/her extensive disciplinary qualifications in important fields within the discipline. His/her individual work must document scientific expertise in one or more parts of the discipline, particularly the specialist fields is position. Weight will be placed on the ability to supervise and initiate research and development work. Weight will also be placed on pedagogic skills. The evaluation of applicants will be based on documented pedagogic material, including education/training, the presentation of academic and professional work, experiences from supervising masters-level and doctoral students, and teaching as well as other educational matters. The evaluation will consider both the quality and the scope. Academic staff who are employed without having a formal pedagogical qualification in university-level teaching and are unable to document equivalent qualifications, are required to successfully complete a recognized course that gives a pedagogical qualification in university-level teaching within two years of taking the appointment. The University offers such courses. The applicants that have been short-listed will be invited for interviews and a demonstration of their pedagogical ability, usually in the form of a trial lecture. The Professor is to be jointly responsible for disciplinary matters together with other academic staff in the Department. The Professor is required to participate in teaching activities in accordance with the relevant curriculum, and to assist in further devel oping the teaching programme, including continuing education. The Professor is to supervise master students, PhD candidates and doctoral candidates in his/her discipline. The Professor must agree to participate in administrative work. The Professor is obliged to follow the regulations that concern changes and developments within the discipline and/or the organizational changes concerning activities at the University. It is assumed that newly-employed staff in academic positions who do not already master a Scandinavian language are to obtain within three years knowledge of Norwegian or another Scandinavian language at an equivalent standard to level three in the Norwegian for Foreigners courses provided at the Department of Applied Linguistics. The University provides such courses. The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State employees and Civil Servants NTNU promotes women researchers inn all strategic areas of the university and women are therefore strongly encouraged to apply. We can offer a remuneration package or a qualification fellowship for the new women researchers we employ. The position is remunerated according to wage levels 64 to 76 on the Norwegian State salary scale, with gross salary from NOK 512 500 to NOK 625 900 per annum. There will be a 2 % deduction to The Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund from gross salary.
