| DESCRIPTION: | The Department of Biological Systems Engineering at University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications for an Assistant Professor position (Bio-waste Management and Utilization Engineer). The focus of this position will be on manure and bio-waste handling, processing and treatment, and uses of bio-wastes both as a nutrient source and as a source of other high value outputs such as energy and other co-products. This position will have primary focus on animal manure, but will also include work on other bio-waste systems from the food processing, pulp and paper, and bio-energy industries. Ability to conduct research related to development and application of innovative technologies for manure and bio-waste treatment, separation and application, digestion technology for energy or other uses, and odor/emission control, especially for animal production systems is of particular interest. Outreach responsibilities will involve development of systems and practices, in coordination with state and federal agencies, to educate and assist livestock producers and bioprocessors in developing integrated solutions for manure and bio-waste handling, storage, processing, treatment and land application in an economical and environmentally-sound fashion. This position is expected to support undergraduate, graduate and Farm and Industry Short Course instruction related to bio-waste, to develop and teach courses in this area, and to provide graduate student advising and supervision. Successful applicants are expected to have the ability to collaborate in their related areas of research interests, with researchers within and outside the Department. Applicants are expected to perform university and community service as appropriate. Degree and area of specialization: Successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Agricultural Engineering, Biological Systems Engineering, Civil/Environmental Engineering or a closely related engineering field. Relevant Work Experience: Ability to develop a nationally recognized externally funded research program, and provide high impact integrated extension/outreach support that brings together state/federal agencies, county-based extension agricultural agents and Wisconsin's livestock producers, food processors and other waste related interests.
