INSPIRE, the Institute for P-12 Engineering Research and Learning at the School of Engineering Education at Purdue University invites applications for a post-doctoral fellow. We are seeking an up-and-coming researcher/designer to participate in a series of studies/interventions on the learning and teaching of engineering as “caring” discipline in the context of environmental and ecological concerns. The population is the pre-school to high school level, targeting specifically teachers and guidance/career counselors. This project will develop and test instructional and performance improvement strategies. At the same time, the post-doctoral fellow will assist in the development of a basic and applied research agenda for pedagogical content knowledge and development of engineering thinking with teachers. INSPIRE is a research center within Purdue University’s School of Engineering Education and funded by private and federal funding. The candidate should have a Ph.D. or equivalent in instructional design and research, learning sciences, science education, chemical education, engineering education, or a related field. The successful applicant for this position should be able to work independently and should possess expertise in both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. Strong literature search, research design, written, and verbal skills are required. Starting date is flexible but should fall between July 1, 2008 and August 30, 2009. Two years of funding are available given satisfactory performance during the first year.
