An exciting opportunity has opened up to work in the area of pathogen virulence in an interdisciplinary group at the University of Vermont. The applicant will have a PhD expertise in cell biology or molecular biology. The project focuses on understanding how the hydrolysis of organo-phosphorus compounds (particularly the inositol phosphates) is linked to the dominance and virulence of organisms such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus. The implications of this work are both environmental and medical in nature. The successful applicant will have ample opportunity to foster relationships in both areas. The position is for 1.5-2 years and is funded through a grant from the National Institutes of Health. The candidate should have excellent skills in spoken and written English.
