ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYST

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is a bi-state public agency operating some of the busiest and most important transportation links in the New York/New Jersey region including The Port Authority Trans-Hudson Corporation (PATH), the primary transit link between Manhattan and New Jersey communities and suburban commuter railroads. We currently have an opening for an Environmental Analyst in the Engineering Department’s Materials Engineering Division. In this position you will be responsible for environmental monitoring and materials testing. Fieldwork is approximately 60% of position responsibilities, including monitoring well, drum, and soil sampling at facilities within the Metropolitan NY/NJ region. Responsibilities: Environmental Monitoring · Conduct lead monitoring surveys associated with lead based paint abrasive blasting · Perform permitted discharge and monitoring well sampling, including low flow sampling protocols · Collect soil samples associated with disposal programs, underground storage tank programs, tenant transfers, and spill investigations, using sampling techniques including Encore® soil samplers · Collect and characterizes waste sample for disposal under RCRA (Resource Conservation & Recovery Act) regulations. Materials Testing · Perform testing on construction materials such as soil, fireproofing, ceramic tiles, etc. · Perform testing on concrete to determine pH, chloride content and other parameters Requirements: · Bachelor of Science Degree in Earth Sciences or Engineering · 2+ years experience performing environmental sampling · Demonstrated knowledge about RCRA disposal requirements · Ability to obtain security clearance (10 year background check) for restricted airport work and other secure facilities · Completed OSHA 1910.120 40-hour training and current refresher · Possess a valid driver’s license Desirable: · Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) Certification The Port Authority offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package and a professional environment that supports development and recognizes achievement.
