| INSTITUTION: | Sandia National Laboratories |
| DESCRIPTION: | Sandia National Laboratories is one of the country’s largest research and engineering laboratories, employing 8,500 people at major facilities in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Livermore, California. We make enduring contributions to secure our society against high consequence terrorist threats and national incidents through effective use of science, technology, and systems solutions. Please visit our website at www.sandia.gov. We are searching for a Post-doctoral Appointee for the Geochemistry Department at the Albuquerque facility. The salary is commensurate. A benefit and relocation package is available. An opening exists for a post-doctoral researcher in the newly established Center for Frontiers of Subsurface Energy Security (CFSES) funded by US Department of Energy (DOE) and established by Sandia National Laboratories and the University of Texas (UT). The successful candidate will work as a team member on experimental and computational studies to understand flow, transport, and reactive processes at the pore scale. We will characterize the complexities of multiphase physical and biogeochemical interactions through fundamental experimental research at the pore scale, integrate these observations with reactive transport models and molecular simulations, and provide parameters for upscaling these complexities and their outcomes to larger-scale systems. Opportunities exist for close interaction with researches in related areas at Sandia and UT. It is expected that the candidate will promote program visibility by maintaining an active publication record and participating in meetings of the international geosciences technical community. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Geosciences, Microbiology, Engineering or a related field with experience in microbiological and/or geochemical experimental research. A strong academic record and a demonstrated commitment to publication are essential. Prior work experience, familiarity biofilm growth, epifluorescent and confocal laser scanning microscopy, and reactive transport modeling are all highly desirable.
