| DESCRIPTION: | Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, located in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E., is a private, not-for-profit, independent, graduate-level, research-driven institute developed with the support and cooperation of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The goal of the Institute is to develop, over a period of years, indigenous R&D capacity in Abu Dhabi, addressing issues of importance to the region in critical areas such as: renewable energy, sustainability, environment, water resources and microelectronics. Starting fall 2009, the Institute has begun offering graduate degree programs in science and engineering disciplines with a focus on advanced energy and sustainable technologies (www.masdar.ac.ae and http://web.mit.edu/mit-tdp/www/). The program in Water & Environmental Engineering at Masdar Institute currently has openings for full-time, open-rank (i.e., Full, Associate, and Assistant Professor) faculty positions in the sub-specialties of Water & Environmental Technologies and Water Resources Engineering. Research areas of interest within the Water & Environmental Technologies specialty include (1) physical/chemical treatment processes for potable water production (e.g., membrane-based or thermal desalination technologies); (2) wastewater treatment technologies for water reuse (e.g., aerobic & anaerobic membrane bioreactors); (3) environmental biotechnology application to wastewater treatment processes (e.g., phylogenetic and proteomic techniques for microbial community profiling and process control); and, (4) ex situ hazardous waste treatment technologies. Areas of interest within the Water Resources Engineering specialty include (1) environmental fluid mechanics, (2) arid lands hydrology; (3) coastal zone hydrology and engineering; and, (4) water supply modeling & management. Exceptional candidates working in other related areas of water and environmental engineering will also be considered. Job responsibilities include developing and teaching graduate-level courses, supervising master’s and doctoral students, developing an externally funded research program, and participating in the Institute's service and outreach activities. Applicants should have a strong record of published research, experience in supervising graduate students, and relevant teaching experience. An earned doctorate in the relevant field (Civil & Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline) is required, as is fluency in English. Post-doctoral or industrial research experience is considered a plus. Application submittal information: The Massachusetts Institute of Technology is assisting Masdar Institute in the search. Initial screening of applications will begin immediately and the positions will remain open until filled. Application materials should include applicant name and contact information, a curriculum vitae, statements of research and teaching interests, an application letter describing the applicant’s current position and how his/her experience matches the position requirements, and e-mail contact information for at least three references.
