DESCRIPTION:

The School of Civil Engineering and Environmental Science (CEES) at the University of Oklahoma seeks qualified applicants for five doctoral fellowships to participate in the Department of Education’s Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need (GAANN) program; an exciting, multidisciplinary research and education venture. Fellows will receive a stipend of up to $30,000 per year (based on financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid program), full tuition and fee waivers, and an allowance that can be used for educational and research expenses such as books, laboratory and field supplies, computer hardware and software, and travel to conferences. GAANN fellows will pursue research in sustainable technologies for civil and environmental systems, defined to include processes, products, or strategies for understanding, designing, or operating our civil and environmental infrastructure in a sustainable manner. Current CEES research in this area spans the disciplines of civil engineering, environmental engineering, and environmental science, and includes passive remediation, advanced wastewater treatment and recycling, structural and geotechnical health monitoring, hydraulic modeling for coastal/riparian planning, disaster mitigation, pavement management systems, and use of recycled/waste materials in pavement.
