| DESCRIPTION: | The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is seeking outstanding prospective graduate students interested in Environmental Biotechnology. Research projects in the general areas of molecular microbial ecology, biological waste treatment, and metabolic engineering are available. Applicants should be willing to participate in the Biotechnology Training Program (BTP) and should indicate as such in their statement of purpose. The BTP is a NIH funded pre-doctoral training program taken as a minor course of study in conjunction with established Ph.D. programs at the UW-Madison. The goal of this program is to educate a new cadre of scientists and engineers with cross disciplinary knowledge and training to engender novel solutions, and improve communication among researchers. BTP trainees must complete a short internship at a company in the biotechnology industry. Further information regarding program requirements can be found at the BTP web page (http://www.bact.wisc.edu/Biotech/btpelgib.htm). Outstanding applicants to the CEE Department at UW-Madison will be nominated for traineeships, which are awarded on a competitive basis and provide three years of tuition and stipend support. Prospective students should apply to the Graduate School (http:// http://apply.wisconsin.edu/), or see the CEE Departmental web page for more information (http://www.engr.wisc.edu/cee). Additional information is available at the BTP web page (http://bioinfo.bact.wisc.edu/BTP/index.html). The submission deadline for full consideration is January 15, 2010. For submission after this date, please contact Dr. Katherine McMahon (tmcmahon@engr.wisc.edu) first. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents to be eligible for BTP support. All interested applicants are also encouraged to contact Dr. Katherine McMahon at tmcmahon@engr.wisc.edu prior to submitting an application. |
