The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey is a bistate public agency responsible for promoting transportation and commerce, operating some of the busiest and most important transportation links in the region including bridges, tunnels, bus terminals, airports, PATH, AirTrain systems, and the NY/NJ seaport.
The Port Authority is seeking to fill a position of Environmental Engineer in the Engineering Department’s Engineering/Architecture Design Division. As an Environmental Engineer you will report to a Principal or Senior Environmental Engineer. In this position you will be responsible for preparing estimates, specifications, notes and drawings in support of construction contracts. In addition, you will be developing site and remedial investigations for soil and groundwater and developing technical reports for submission to State regulatory agencies (e.g. underground tank closures, remedial action work plans), as well as assist in securing environmental permits and registrations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Evaluate project scopes and develop design criteria, as well as budget for design services and design schedules.
· Provide technical support and assistance to facility and other Port Authority personnel for matters related to environmental engineering design and regulatory compliance.
· Supervise junior level engineers and CAD operators.
· Routinely serve as a Task Leader but may act as the Lead Engineer/Architect (LEA) on less complex projects.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
· Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental, Chemical or Civil Engineering.
· Minimum of five years experience preparing soil and ground water investigation reports for NY and NJ regulatory agencies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will present the following qualifications profile:
· Direct experience in developing storm water pollution prevention plans and obtaining environmental permits related to wetlands, waterfront development and stream encroachment.
· Experience dealing with regulatory agencies in NY and NJ.
· Potential candidates will be requested to provide a copy of a site investigation report, remedial investigation report and a remedial action work plan prepared in accordance with State requirements and completed within the past year.
