| DESCRIPTION: | The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Washington is embarking on an ambitious multiyear period of growth and renewal. As part of this initiative, applications are being solicited for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position that will expand the Department’s capabilities in environmental engineering as they relate to global health and sustainable water supply and and/or water treatment. Notwithstanding these potential focus areas, outstanding applicants with a background across other water related environmental engineering subdisciplines are encouraged. Major societal challenges that are likely to motivate research in the various water subdisciplines over the next few decades including the need to develop cost-effective and sustainable water supply and treatment technologies that respond to global health issues. Candidates are sought who will strengthen the Department’s capabilities in these areas, while leveraging from existing expertise within the Department and elsewhere on campus in areas such as water treatment, fluid mechanics, limnology, hydrology and climate related research, as well as exceptional strengths in other areas of the Earth and Health Sciences across the UW campus, including the recently established College of the Environment and the Department of Global Health. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an internationally recognized research program and to participate in the teaching and service missions of the department. Candidates capable of developing collaborative relationships in research and teaching are of particular interest. Candidates at the rank of assistant or associate professor with an established reputation as a leader in their area of expertise are encouraged to apply, as are recent Ph.D. graduates. A PhD in civil engineering or related science discipline is required.
