The Department of Earth & Environmental Engineering at Columbia University in New York City invites applications for tenure and tenure-track faculty positions. Appointments at all levels, including assistant professor, associate professor and full professor, will be considered.
The Department of Earth and Environmental Engineering (EEE) strives to develop effective solutions to the complex and multidisciplinary problems of planetary sustainability, reconciling a deep concern for the environment with the needs of our global industrialized society. Our central theme is the conscientious stewardship of our finite natural resources, namely minerals, fuels, energy, water, and land. EEE maintains the Henry Krumb School of Mines’ longstanding tradition of responsibly providing essential materials to society, while pioneering important new environmental initiatives. The research and educational components of EEE are organized into three broad themes:
• Water resources and climate risks
• Sustainable energy and materials
• Environmental health engineering
The Department works closely with the Earth Institute and other units at Columbia in these areas. Mitigation and adaptation of risks posed by global climate variability and change is a particular focus. Outstanding candidates who are experts in specific and cross-cutting areas including, but not limited to sustainable energy, water systems (quantity and quality), mineral processing, and who can make significant contributions to the above priority area, are particularly welcome to apply. Candidates working at the interface between physical, chemical, life, computer and policy sciences in the above context are also encouraged to apply.
Assistant Professors at Columbia are academic officers holding the doctorate or its professional equivalent who are beginning a career of independent scholarly research and teaching.
Associate Professors at Columbia are academic officers holding the doctorate or its professional equivalent who have demonstrated scholarly and teaching ability and show great promise of attaining distinction in their fields of specialization.
Professors at Columbia are scholars and teachers holding the doctorate or its professional equivalent who are widely recognized for their distinction. Candidates for senior-level appointment must have a distinguished record of achievement as evidenced by leadership in their field of expertise, publications, professional recognition, as well as a commitment to excellence in teaching.
Candidates must have a PhD degree and are expected to establish a strong research program and excel in teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses.
