Mechanical/Energy Engineering

Mechanical/Energy Engineering

RANK: PhD or MS degree in mechanical engineering
INSTITUTION: Brown and Caldwell
DESCRIPTION:

An industry-leading environmental engineering consulting firm is looking for more great people to join our mechanical/energy engineering team. A company where you can grow! Brown and Caldwell is looking for mechanical engineers with a passion for alternative energy and providing clients with creative technical solutions to their climate change and sustainability concerns. This is an excellent opportunity to join an employee-owned environmental engineering company with a guiding philosophy of providing the “Best Brains” in its approach to developing and implementing environmental solutions. Since 1950, Brown and Caldwell has led the wastewater industry in innovative applications of: • Cogeneration (combined heat and power) • Alternative fuels in prime movers (engines, turbines, etc.) • Biogas scrubbing (CO2, H2S, siloxane, and moisture removal) • Gas compression and distribution • Heat extraction from effluent using large heat pumps • Fuel cells • Heated- and chilled-water storage • Utility heating and cooling systems • Small hydropower • Carbon footprint analysis • Energy audits and optimization. We value technical and engineering excellence. Our clients face increasingly complex environmental issues that demand real innovation and cutting-edge expertise. Promoting personal development and encouraging professional collaboration is how we deliver our “Best Brains” approach to doing business. We work together to develop integrated, cost-effective program solutions, then we stick by our clients until we achieve successful implementation. Position Description You will work on various municipal wastewater and private-sector projects including conducting energy assessments and optimization studies; greenhouse gas and climate change studies; and cogeneration, heat extraction, and waste-to-energy studies and designs. Additional projects also involve district heating system development, anaerobic digester enhancements, and designing “carbon positive” wastewater treatment plants. You will work closely with and be mentored by senior technical experts in the company and will interact with internal project team members as well as with external clients. The position is based in Seattle, Washington; however, there are additional opportunities in some of our other 48 offices around the country. Position Requirements We are looking for an engineer with a PhD or MS degree in mechanical engineering, with a strong grasp of fundamentals (heat and mass transfer, thermodynamics, machine design, engineering economics, etc.) and a focus in energy. The candidate should have taken related coursework and have a broad-based knowledge in the energy field, spanning from conventional energy technologies to alternative energy systems. Practical experience in alternative energy systems is desirable. The candidate should also be an excellent communicator who is comfortable presenting his or her ideas to diverse audiences and working both in team and independent work environments. If you will fulfill your degree requirements in the next six months, find out more. Check out www.brownandcaldwell.com/careers or call Marcy Akiyama at 206-749-2246 or makiyama@brwncald.com
