DETAILED DESCRIPTION:
The Golisano Institute for Sustainability at the Rochester Institute of Technology (Rochester NY) invites applications to the tenure-track or tenured position of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Sustainability. The successful applicant will be a leading expert or demonstrate the potential to be a leading expert in one or more of the four areas of expertise at GIS: sustainable production systems, sustainable energy systems, sustainable mobility, or Eco-IT (ecologically efficient information technology systems). (S)he will have a demonstrated record or demonstrated potential in graduate advising, mentoring of Ph.D. candidates, working in multidisciplinary teams, securing external resources, and publishing peer-reviewed, scholarly research in fields including, but not limited to, industrial ecology, green engineering, ecological economics, sustainable decision-making and public policy, risk analysis, systems engineering, and/or integrative graduate education. Duties of the position will include sponsored research, teaching exclusively at the graduate level, mentoring of graduate students, and governance of novel curricula in the Sustainability Ph.D. and Sustainable Systems M.S. programs.

GOLISANO INSTITUTE FOR SUSTAINABILITY

The Golisano Institute for Sustainability (GIS) at Rochester Institute of Technology is a leading research center in the burgeoning field of sustainability, conducting over $14 M of external sponsored research per annum. The Institute is staffed by five academic faculty, five research faculty, and nearly 100 professional staff of scientists, engineers and administrative support personnel. It houses several research centers within 170,000 square feet of research, laboratory, teaching and meeting space, including the Systems Modernization & Sustainment Center, the National Center for Remanufacturing and Resource Recovery, the Center for Sustainable Mobility, the Center for Sustainable Production, the Pollution Prevention Institute, and the NanoPower Research Laboratory. QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:
Qualified candidates must hold an earned Ph.D. or equivalent degree by the time of appointment. All candidates must have a record of scholarly research related to sustainability, as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications.

PREFERRED:
Preference will be given to candidates with experience working in a multidisciplinary environment, an appreciation for and commitment to a systems approach to sustainability, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Particular emphasis will be given to candidates with a research record or trajectory that complements the four areas of expertise at GIS.
Candidates who have the potential to complement, strengthen, or expand the Institute’s extensive network of partnerships and sponsor relationships with major international manufacturing firms, government agencies, national labs, and domestic or international research Universities will be regarded favorably.

For the rank of Assistant Professor, candidates should have a strong scholarly agenda related to sustainability, including a demonstrated potential to publish research, secure external resources, advise graduate students, and excel at graduate-level teaching.

For the rank of Associate or Full Professor, candidates should have a demonstrated record of accomplishment related to sustainability, including external funding, peer-reviewed publications, teaching excellence, and successful mentorship of Ph.D. students.
