Environmental and Atmospheric Chemistry

RANK: Postdoctoral Associate
INSTITUTION: USDA-Agricultural Research Service
DESCRIPTION:

The USDA, Agricultural Research Service, Crop Protection and Quality unit at the San Joaquin Valley Agricultural Research Center is seeking researchers to start immediately: POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE (Environmental/Atmospheric chemist) for a TWO YEAR APPOINTMENT. Ph.D. is required. GS-11 salary is commensurate with experience ($ 56,411 - $58,291 per annum) plus benefits. The incumbent will investigate physicochemical aspects of conducting postharvest chamber fumigations with negligible atmospheric impact. Contemporary containment/reuse methodologies will be comparatively evaluated for methyl bromide and alternative fumigants. Novel materials and strategies for reducing fumigant, or VOC, emissions will also be targeted, particularly destructive techniques involving energy-efficient combustion, heterogeneous catalysis, and/or biodegradation. Knowledge of chemical analysis, reactivity, and kinetics is desirable. POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE (Environmental chemist/toxicologist) for a TWO YEAR APPOINTMENT. Ph.D. is required. GS-11 salary is commensurate with experience ($ 56,411 - $58,291 per annum) plus benefits. The incumbent will conduct research on the fate, transport, and biological consequence of chemicals used in agriculture, including pesticides and natural products. Experience with invertebrate toxicology, gas- and liquid-chromatography, and/or mass spectrometry is desirable. Send application materials and references to Dr. Spencer Walse, USDA/ARS/SJVASC, 9611 S. Riverbend Ave., Parlier, CA 93648 or e-mail (spencer.walse@ars.usda.gov).
