| RANK: | Professor Drinking Water Engineering |
| INSTITUTION: | Delft University of Technology |
| DESCRIPTION: | PROFESSORSHIP IN DRINKING WATER ENGINEERING The Department of Water Management of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences of Delft University of Technology (DUT) announces the following vacant professorship in Drinking Water Engineering. The Department has responsibility for the following disciplines: Hydrology, Water resources management, Drinking water engineering, Sewerage and Wastewater treatment and has organized its activities into two sections, i.e Water resources engineering and Sanitary Engineering. Teaching is organized as part of DUT’s MSc-program in Civil Engineering, where the department offers the MSc specialization in Water Management. The Department is also offering a PhD program in this area. The Chair in Drinking Water Engineering is the only chair on this topic in the Netherlands and as such has special responsibilities for research and teaching in Drinking Water Engineering. Currently, the Chair is responsible for a substantial teaching and research programme, including 6 courses, 30 MSc-students and some 20 PhD-students and academic and support staff. The Chair covers the whole spectrum of drinking water quality, drinking water treatment technology, drinking water distribution, modelling, design and engineering, management and operations and policy development. It is envisaged that it will be difficult for candidates to show excellence in all these aspects and so the committee has adopted an open strategy to select the best qualified candidate which can come from any of the mentioned specializations. The successful applicant must be able to document his/her research qualifications in important fields within the discipline. Serious consideration will be given to the candidate’s ability to supervise and initiate research and development work. The successful candidate must be recognized as a leading expert in the field of drinking water design and engineering and have or be able to develop an excellent relationship with the (Dutch) water sector. Also consideration will be given to the candidate’s pedagogic skills. The candidate should be able to motivate and stimulate MSc and PhD-students and convey the results of research in the international arena in a convincing way. The successful candidate is a natural leader, has a broad mind and has communication and management skills. In future the Professor may also act as head of the section Sanitary Engineering and/or head of the department of Water Management, depending on collegial discussions within the Faculty. It is assumed that newly-employed staff in academic positions who do not already speak Dutch will obtain within three years knowledge of Dutch. DUT promotes women researchers in all strategic areas of the university and women are therefore strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants are asked to submit their application letter, CV and supporting documentation, including list of publications, before April 30, 2010 to Dr, Jasper Verberk, Secretary of the Nomination Committee on Drinking Water Engineering, PO Box 5048, 2600 GA Delft (J.Q.J.C.Verberk@TUDelft.nl). A profile report is available. The applicants who have been short-listed will be invited for interviews and a demonstration of their pedagogical ability and research views in the form of a trial lecture in May 2010. |
