Postdoc in environmental organic chemistry

RANK: Postdoc
INSTITUTION: Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne (EPFL)
DESCRIPTION:

The Laboratory of Environmental Chemistry (http://lce.epfl.ch) at the Institute of Environmental Engineering (http://iie.epfl.ch) at Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, is interested in naturally occurring processes in that lead to the transformation of organic pollutants in aquatic systems. To reinforce our team we are currently looking for a postdoctoral researcher in the area of environmental organic chemistry. The successful candidate will conduct a project on the reaction of human metabolites of pharmaceuticals with environmental nucleophiles. This project is part of a larger, collaborative venture investigating the fate and transport of wastewater-derived micropollutants in Lake Geneva. The successful candidate will mainly collaborate with a doctoral student and a lab technician at EPFL, but will also interact with other members of the project. The work will consist of both field sampling as well as laboratory experiments. Highly motivated applicants are sought who hold a recent PhD in environmental chemistry, analytical chemistry, or a closely related field. Good knowledge of environmental chemistry, as well as relevant experience with analyses of micropollutants in environmental matrices by LC-MS/MS is desired. The group language is English, therefore a good command of both spoken and written English is essential. The position is initially funded for one year, with the possibility of prolongation. EPFL offers state-of-the-art facilities and instrumentation, highly competitive salaries (starting salary ca. CHF 80’000/year), and a stimulating working environment. We are located in Lausanne, Switzerland, at the shores of Lake Geneva and with easy access to the Alps. The position is available as early as August 1, 2010. Interested candidates should send a letter of motivation, a full CV, and the name and contact information of three references to karine.maritz@epfl.ch.
