| DESCRIPTION: | The University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications for a full time tenured or tenure track position as an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. The Department desires to expand its expertise in emerging areas, that are increasingly multi-disciplinary, related to structures and building systems. Desired areas of specialization include, but are not limited to, smart structures, sustainable building systems, composite materials, or new emerging structural materials and building methods. Applicants are expected to have the ability to develop internationally recognized research programs and to contribute to the Department’s scholarly work in undergraduate and graduate programs and professional service. The successful candidate is expected to work directly with faculty in the Department’s structural and construction engineering, and construction materials programs and to pursue multi-disciplinary endeavors across the Department, the College of Engineering, and the University. Excellent opportunities exist for research collaborations across the University, with industry, and with the local, state and federal agencies. Candidates will have the opportunity to participate in on-going campus-wide activities on sustainability and the Department’s sponsored research programs and centers such as the Wisconsin Highway Research Program (www.whrp.org), the Construction and Materials Support Center (cmsc.engr.wisc.edu/), and the National Center for Freight and Infrastructure Research and Education (www.wistrans.org/cfire),. The successful candidate is expected to strengthen and capitalize on strong ties with industry, institutions and government agencies, and to become a nationally and internationally recognized individual. Applicants should have a strong background in structural engineering, research experience and the equivalent of a doctorate degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. A commitment to excellence in related research and teaching in structural engineering is required. The Department’s Civil Engineering graduate program was ranked 11th among the top programs in 2009 by the U.S. News and World Report.
