These may include water quality impacts, TMDLs, watershed management, sediments, hydrology and hydraulics, “water footprint” analyses, nutrients, and related surface and ground water quality assessments and modeling. Environmental Microbiology or Chemistry

As such, the Toxicology and Environmental Research and Consulting (TERC) organization is looking for an accomplished Research Scientist in Environmental Chemistry or Microbiology. TERC is a part of the Dow Chemical Global EH&S group, and is committed to conducting research to establish safety of Dow products for humans and the environment. The primary responsibility of the Research Scientist is to conduct environmental science evaluations in support of regulatory, wastewater, and environmental stewardship programs. Responsibilities: • Provide leadership in the conduct of environmental science laboratory studies for development of sustainable products and manufacturing processes • Perform research and conduct or monitor laboratory studies on the fate and effects of chemicals in environmental systems • Provide consultation to Dow businesses and manufacturing operations on a wide variety of environmental issues • Assist in the conduct of risk assessments of chemicals, including mechanisms of action and exposure amounts, and bioavailability • Provide leadership of scientific research on environmental topics of interest to Dow businesses • This Environmental Chemist/Microbiologist will have a working knowledge of U.S. and International regulatory testing guidelines and GLP standards and must demonstrate a track record of effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects. • This chemist/.microbiologist will work individually and within a multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary team environment. • Presentation of scientific research at technical symposia and in peer-reviewed publications is expected in this role. Requirements: • A PhD with postdoctoral experience in Environmental Chemistry/Environmental Microbiology Sciences is required. • Specific research in biodegradation, bioavailability, or multi-media fate/transport of chemicals is required. • A fundamentals understanding of the microbial transformation of xenobiotics including pathways for biocatalysis and biodegradation. • A broad understanding of microbiological processes in water, soil, sediments including the genetic and metabolic diversity of microorganisms • Demonstrated experience in application of experimental design, statistical analysis, and project management is required. • Recent laboratory and/or consulting experience with providing interpretation of the processes which influence the partitioning, transport, and lifetime of chemicals in environmental systems is required. • Strong communications skills and previous experience in consulting requiring high level of customer/client interactions. • Previous experience with U.S. and International regulatory testing guidelines and GLP standards is highly desired. ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYST

We currently have an opening for an Environmental Analyst in the Engineering Department’s Materials Engineering Division. In this position you will be responsible for environmental monitoring and materials testing. Fieldwork is approximately 60% of position responsibilities, including monitoring well, drum, and soil sampling at facilities within the Metropolitan NY/NJ region. Responsibilities: Environmental Monitoring · Conduct lead monitoring surveys associated with lead based paint abrasive blasting · Perform permitted discharge and monitoring well sampling, including low flow sampling protocols · Collect soil samples associated with disposal programs, underground storage tank programs, tenant transfers, and spill investigations, using sampling techniques including Encore® soil samplers · Collect and characterizes waste sample for disposal under RCRA (Resource Conservation & Recovery Act) regulations.
