Paul V. Roberts/AEESP Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award

Dissertation Title: Fate and Degradation of Petroleum Hydrocarbons in Stormwater Bioretention Cells

Greg's research is unique in that it was on the seemingly "low tech" stormwater treatment technology of "raingardens". However, he used a combination of molecular techniques and chemical analysis, in lab and field studies, to link sorption, plant up-take, and biodegradation of petroleum hydrocarbons in raingardens to the presence of various genes, plant exudates, and other factors, including the type of plants and their associated rhizosphere communities.
