Magnetic Nanoparticles for Wastewater Treatment and Site Remediation

The research group of Professor Irene M. C. Lo at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology ( would like to invite applications for a Post-doctorial Fellow position in the area of magnetic nanoparticles for wastewater treatment and site remediation. The ideal candidate would have a background in environmental engineering with experimental research experience on nanoparticles transport and contaminant treatment efficiency.

Computer modeling and environmental engineering/environmental science

The Center for the Environmental Implications of NanoTechnology (CEINT) is seeking a post-doctoral researcher with computer modeling and environmental engineering/environmental science expertise. We seek a broadly trained individual with an interdisciplinary background and research experience in the following areas: Numerical modeling, design and utilization of Bayesian Networks, programming in Matlab and C++/Fortran, relational database design and associated skills in importing and manipulating large data sets from a variety of formats.

Environmental Engineering/Microelectrodes

An Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) postdoctoral research project training opportunity is currently available at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) National Risk Management Research Laboratory (NRMRL) in Cincinnati, Ohio.  The project is entitled "Microelectrode Investigation of the Reaction of Pipe Materials with Drinking Water Disinfectants".  The full ORISE announcement and application instructions can be found at:

Emissions data collection and analysis

Colorado State University is looking for an experimentalist with strong analytical instrumentation skills to lead the collection and analysis of the field data for a major methane emissions study.   The advent and success of unconventional techniques for the extraction of natural gas presents a great opportunity to increase national energy security and lower the carbon footprint of our energy sector, if done correctly. Given the potency of methane (CH4) as a greenhouse gas, even small leak rates contribute to accelerated rates of climate change.

Environmental/Water/Chemical Engineering

A postdoctoral research position is available to conduct research in the field of membrane processes for water desalination and reclamation, and for energy recovery. The research projects are supported by DOE and NSF and are in partnership with industry and other universities. The research projects involve design, modeling, and fabrication of thermal and membrane processes and systems, followed by investigation, improvement, and optimization of process/system performance.

Evaluating urban stormwater Best Management Practice

Virginia Tech is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Associate position to assist a multidisciplinary team whose mission is to evaluate manufactured treatment devices (MTDs) for the control of nutrients and sediment in urban runoff. MTDs are structural stormwater best management practices (BMPs) that may be used in portions of sites, often when space is limited. MTDs implement innovative technologies to achieve potentially greater treatment while reducing spatial requirements, however verifying their performance is challenging.
