A postdoctoral scholar position is immediately available for research at the interface of the Southern Sierra Critical Zone Observatory and a newly funded Water Sustainability & Climate project. This position will carry out research on the hydrology of the Sierra Nevada and the management of water in Central California, employing a combination of data analysis and synthesis, and watershed (rainfall-runoff) simulation approaches. Project duties will include compiling and analyzing data from the CZO, as well as from public and other sources on Southern Sierra watersheds, with particular emphasis on the San Joaquin River basin, from headwaters down to the lowland reaches that are undergoing a major restoration effort. The successful candidate will parameterize and carry out hydrologic modeling of selected catchments to investigate potential impacts of climate change on runoff, and adaptive actions in terms of reservoir operations, and groundwater management.
