Dr. Jose Jimenez, Director of the Wastewater Process Practice and National Technology and Innovation Leader at Brown and Caldwell, has graciously accepted AEESP's invitation to provide its annual Master Lecture at this year's WEFTEC at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, New Orleans, LA.
Dr. Jimenez's presentation, entitled "From Ideas to Implementation: Advancing Water Innovation Through Collaboration" is scheduled for Monday, September 28 from 1:30-3:00 pm CT. The session will be moderated by Dr. Pusker Regmi, Vice President and Wastewater Sector Leader at AEESP Sustaining Member Stantec.
AEESP thanks Dr. Jimenez for representing the association at this great annual event, and we thank the Water Environment Federation for hosting this annual AEESP lecture.

Lecture Abstract:
Innovation is essential to addressing the increasingly complex challenges facing the water sector, yet the path from a promising idea to full-scale implementation is often long and uncertain. This lecture explores how meaningful advances in water resource recovery can be accelerated through collaboration among utilities, researchers, technology providers, regulators, and engineering practitioners. Drawing on experience spanning research, piloting, and full-scale implementation of innovative treatment technologies, the presentation will highlight how collaborative partnerships have advanced process intensification and accelerated technology adoption. Particular emphasis will be placed on reimagining conventional biological nutrient removal configurations by leveraging natural microbial selection processes to enrich desired functional populations, improve nutrient removal performance, and enhance operational efficiency. Through selected case studies, this lecture will illustrate the technical insights, implementation strategies, and partnerships required to translate innovative concepts into reliable, full-scale solutions.
About Dr. Jimenez:
Dr. Jose Jimenez serves as Director of the Wastewater Process Practice and National Technology and Innovation Leader at Brown and Caldwell. His work centers on municipal water resource recovery technologies, with a strong emphasis on resource recovery, process intensification, and innovative treatment strategies. Hs provides technical leadership and support to design and research teams addressing municipal water resource recovery facilities, focusing on advanced approaches to carbon diversion, nutrient removal and recovery, process optimization, and reductions in energy and chemical consumption.
In addition to his role at Brown and Caldwell, Dr. Jimenez has held leadership positions with the Water Environment Federation (WEF), including serving as Chair of the Municipal Treatment Symposium Program Committee and as conference chair for several national conferences. He has contributed to numerous research initiatives spanning low dissolved oxygen nutrient removal, partial denitrification–anammox, sludge densification, mainstream anaerobic wastewater treatment, aerobic granular sludge, enhanced biological phosphorus removal, and urine diversion and treatment, among other topics. He has served as principal investigator and technical lead on multiple research projects sponsored by the Water Research Foundation.
Dr. Jimenez has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed journal articles and over 100 conference papers and proceedings. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of New Orleans and is a licensed professional engineer in multiple states, a Board-Certified Environmental Engineer (BCEE) through the American Academy of Environmental Engineers, and a Fellow of the Water Environment Federation (WEF).
