AEESP Experts Program

AEESP Experts Program

The goals of this program are to (i) increase the visibility of environmental engineering and science to the general public and (ii) build recognition of AEESP members’ knowledge and expertise by facilitating more opportunities for media engagement.

Our AEESP Experts database includes over 110 faculty members with expertise on broad topics related to drinking water quality, wastewater treatment, air quality, specific pollutants (e.g., PFAS, microplastics, lead, etc.), climate change, and environmental health, among others.

How to get involved

Volunteer to be an AEESP Expert.

How it works

The organizing team (Ground Control) has built a database of environmental reporters from various outlets (e.g., New York Times, Associated Press, Reuters, etc.). Ground Control regularly reaches out to reporters and encourages them to connect with AEESP Experts when they need input on environmental stories, podcasts, interviews, and other forms of media. After building these connections, Ground Control receives requests from reporters, passes the requests along to the Experts, and then introduces interested Experts to the reporters.

AEESP Experts are asked to review media training materials to prepare themselves for engaging with reporters. After completing the training, Experts begin receiving media requests from Ground Control. Experts are not expected to comment on every request, only those that best align with their expertise and interests.

Experts are not considered representatives of AEESP – they speak with reporters on their own behalf. The AEESP Experts program is just meant to facilitate these connections.

For reporters

If you need to speak with an expert for a story, podcast, or interview or just to gain a deeper understanding of an environmental topic, please email us at aeespexperts@gmail.com. We will send your request to our AEESP Experts and then connect you with an appropriate Expert to share their insights on the topic.

We are also expanding our reporter database to increase our collective reach and impact. Please feel free to share this site with your colleagues and encourage them to reach out to us. We will be happy to add them to the reporter database.
