PhD/MS research positions in air quality modeling at NC State
Several fully funded PhD or MS student research positions are available in the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at North Carolina State University starting Fall 2023 (or earlier if preferred). Students will have the opportunity to work on local to global air quality modeling and investigate the connections between air pollution, climate, and environmental policy, while exploring new modeling and data analysis methods. Potential research projects include: (1) developing strategies to manage the air pollution impacts of wildland fire; (2) investigating the health and environmental effects of energy transitions; (3) studying the interactions between climate change, air quality, and society; (4) using modeling tools to help mitigate air pollution in low- and middle-income countries. Additional information is available here: https://fgarciam.wordpress.ncsu.edu/prospective-students/
At NC State, students will be part of one of the largest environmental engineering programs in the U.S. and a vibrant research community addressing a wide range of policy-relevant topics. NC State is also a great place to undertake air pollution research. Students will have opportunities to interact with many researchers working on air quality and environmental modeling across different academic departments and institutions. The NC Triangle region offers excellent career development resources for air pollution researchers. In addition, Raleigh is an excellent place to live.
Financial support for graduate students covers tuition and salary while they complete their degrees. Graduate applications should be submitted to the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering, preferably by Dec. 15. Applicants can indicate a preference for the Environmental, Water Resources, and Coastal Engineering or Computing and Systems program areas (https://www.ccee.ncsu.edu/academics/graduate-programs/admission/). Students interested in applying are encouraged to contact me directly (f_garcia@ncsu.edu) with any questions and to discuss potential research projects.
