Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Microbiological Valorisation of Aquatic Waste Streams
University of Gothenburg
Location: Gothenburg, Sweden & worldwide
Deadline: April 30, 2023
This position is part of a European Union ERANET co-funded project to improve productivity of controlled-environment agriculture (CEA) systems through improved valorisation of waste streams. Recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) are land-based CEA units to raise fish and are a fast-growing food production system adopted worldwide. They need to capture and revalorise nutrients - especially N, P, C and micronutrients - in fish wastes and uneaten feed and be used to fertilise plants, such as lettuce, fruits or herbs, in greenhouse-based hydroponic units. When microbial biofilters are positioned in between the RAS and hydroponic units with outlets to collect residual waste precipitates, soluble nutrients can be recovered from uneaten feed and fish wastes. Improved CEA waste management practices can contribute to sustainability of food production systems within a more circular bioeconomy. There is latitude in this project to match research objectives to a candidate’s skills and interests. Although based at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden, the successful candidate will be responsible for running applied experiments in several international CEA industrial facilities and academic labs. Candidates require a doctoral degree but are not required to have worked with freshwater or marine aquaculture. Excellent English verbal and written communication skills required. US or EU passport sufficient. April 30, 2023 application deadline. Details and university application portal here. https://web103.reachmee.com/ext/I005/1035/job?site=7&lang=UK&validator=…
