Job Description

The post-doctoral engineer will conduct research in drinking water treatment process engineering and distribution with an emphasis in evaluating and minimizing natural organic matter (NOM), disinfection byproducts (DBPs) and additional precursors that form DBPs in drinking water. Working closely with a team of interdisciplinary EPA engineers and scientists, this project will focus on the feasibility and costs of treating drinking water based on potential new constructs for drinking water regulations, particularly the microbial and disinfection byproduct (MDBP) rules currently under review. Balancing disinfectant residuals, DBPs, and microbial inactivation are major considerations of the ongoing rule review and will be relevant research topics in the laboratory as well as through computational modeling. Research will evaluate not only currently regulated DBPs, but the previously known unregulated DBPs and emerging DBPs.
