Job Description

Postdoctoral Researcher (100 %)
in the area of
“Innovative and Sustainable Wastewater Treatment Using Bioelectrochemical Systems”

The postdoctoral researcher will work on a project aiming to study the feasibility of applying an integrated concept of anaerobic microbial fuel cells (MFC) and anaerobic microbial electrolysis cells (MEC) in wastewater treatment. This integrated technology advances wastewater treatment to climate-neutral and energy-saving concepts with hydrogen production and water reuse potential. The developed technology may lead to the replacement of current biological treatment for wastewater which has a high CO2 footprint. Therefore, we are looking for a researcher on the subject of Microbial Bioelectrochemistry.

Besides:
• The researcher should also be involved in multidisciplinary collaboration and exchange with other partners from science, administration, and industry.
• Publication of the research results is expected.

Personal qualification:
• Ph.D. degree in chemical, civil, environmental engineering or in biotechnology, biochemistry, electrochemistry
• Very strong technical expertise in microbial fuel cells and microbial electrolysis cells and relevant laboratory skills
• Very good written and spoken English language skills; German language skills is a merit.
• Excellent publication record
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Knowledge of biological wastewater treatment is a plus.
• Knowledge of molecular biology is a plus.

Salary: German Salary category 13 (TV-L E13)
