Assistant Professor Position in One Water Engineering
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level in all areas of One Water Engineering. The appointment is expected to begin in August, 2026. The field of one water engineering has been increasingly emphasized as a critical need with rising awareness of emerging contaminants, diminishing water supplies, and failing water infrastructure systems across the nation. Successful candidates for this position will have expertise in engineered systems for drinking and industrial process water, municipal and industrial wastewater, and/or water reuse. Areas of interest include but are not limited to: treatment or characterization of emerging contaminants and pathogens; recovery of water, nutrients, and energy resources; use-inspired design; and novel treatment technologies. These research topics have a wide range of applications relevant to our region, including urban and rural water treatment infrastructure, the water-energy nexus, sustainable community development, environmental policy, freshwater and marine pollution, and natural resource conservation.
The successful candidate in CEE will be involved in both independent and collaborative research working with other UNH programmatic units and research centers in the areas of water, climate change, policy, environmental genomics, and sustainability including: the School of Marine Science and Ocean Engineering (https://marine.unh.edu/), the Carsey School of Public Policy (https://carsey.unh.edu/), the UNH Stormwater Center (https://extension.unh.edu/stormwater-center), UNH’s Center for Infrastructure Resilience to Climate (https://ceps.unh.edu/research/unh-center-infrastructure-resilience-climate), the Sustainability Institute (https://www.unh.edu/sustainability/about), and UNH’s Institute for the Study of Earth Oceans and Space (https://eos.unh.edu/). The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is committed to building a culturally inclusive educational environment. We are seeking a faculty member who can contribute to the excellence in our programs and courses through their research, teaching, and service. CEE currently has 21 tenure-track faculty, lecturers, and research associates that support two ABET accredited degrees in Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering serving 250+ students, and graduate programs in five emphasis areas supporting 65+ students. CEE faculty also support graduate students in UNH’s interdisciplinary Natural Resources & Earth System Science doctoral program.

Duties/Responsibilities
- Teaching (45%) A Full teaching load in the CEE department is three courses per academic year.
- Research (40%) CEE faculty members are expected to submit external proposals, advise and mentor graduate students and work with colleagues to produce meaning and transformative research products in their area of expertise and publish their research results in peer-reviewed journals and conferences
- Service (15%) CEE Faculty members are expected to contribute to the service mission of the department, college and university through committee work and mentoring of student organizations as well as be active members and leaders in their professional societies.
Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:
An earned bachelor’s degree and doctorate in environmental engineering or a closely related field is required, with professional registration expected prior to tenure. Applicants with professional experience are encouraged.

Successful candidates are expected to initiate and sustain a vigorous, independently-funded research program, demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring of students at all levels, and provide service to the department, the university, and the profession.
